Dutch photographer Ingetje Tadros’ latest collection “Tribal Ethiopia” gives her readers a breathtaking inside look at the lives and customs of the peoples of the Omo River Valley in Ethiopia. Her portrayal of the tribal peoples who inhabit the region is an effort to call attention to the threats to their continued existence in the impending wake of the Gibe III hydroelectric dam, and what magnificent life stands to be lost. Throughout this compilation of 286 photos, Tadros just as clearly captures what is uniquely beautiful in their way of life as she emphasizes what is overwhelmingly shared and familiar to all people. Often the portraits, which show men and women in traditional attire, strikingly painted and marked, focus more on the expression in her subject’s eyes, the cuts and scrapes on hands and feet, a shared moment between mother and child, or the tiniest wrinkles in skin. Works such as hers provide that crucial link between the headlines we read and our cognizance of the humanity of others.

We were lucky enough to have a look through “Tribal Ethopia”, Inge’s first published book, before it hit the ‘stores’. Have been fans of her work for years and always look forward to the collections of images she brings back from her photographic jaunts to the villages of the world. She has the ability to capture the true essence of their character and stories, not matter what their situation, history or circumstance. There is always much colour, joy, hope, human beauty and high spirits in the faces of Inge’s subjects. She is able to draw out the best from them all. Now, through this wonderful book, Inge shares with the world what she sees through the camera’s lens, with her eyes and heart. A visual feast! We will treasure our copy and enjoy sharing it with our friends and family.
